Fuchsia seems to be having its moment as the “It Girl” of fashion and decor. Designer collections on the spring fashion runway featured lots of this bright, cheery color, and if you happened to see the Google doodle honoring Audrey Hepburn on her birthday last week, fuchsia was the star (along with Ms. Hepburn, of course).
We love fuchsia, because it is a color that can really make a neutral palette pop. A splash here and a splash there, and you’re making a statement that isn’t easy to ignore. You can see here how a few well-placed decor pieces really go a long way in a design scheme.
If you are confused about the difference between fuchsia and magenta, don’t worry, they’re actually one and the same. The color fuchsia got its name in 1859 when a French chemist patented a bright purple-red dye called fuchsine. That same year the color was renamed magenta to celebrate a French victory at the Battle of Magenta. While there are variations in the magenta/fuchsia family, they are a part of one big happy family, and we can thank the French for that.
